10 Days at the Gold Coast Film Festival

The 2012 Gold Coast Film Festival takes place between April 19 and 29 at the Birch Carroll and Coyle Cinemas, in Southport on Queensland’s Gold Coast. A highlight of the Gold Coast’s annual cultural calendar, this festival shows off some of Queensland’s and Australia’s finest filmmaking talent, with 75 per cent of Queensland’s filmmaking industry located right here on the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast is always a worthwhile place to visit, though never more so than during this incredible film festival. The following is a quick look at the Gold Coast Film Festival.

Film screenings

The 2012 Gold Coast Film Festival will consist of over 40 film showings, showcasing some of the best in Australian and international film. The majority of the films will be shown between Friday, April 25 and Sunday, April 27, with over 30 screenings taking place over these three days, including seven that are free to attend. If you’re only able to be in town for part of this fantastic event, make it for this weekend.

Submitting a film

If you wanted your film to be shown at the 2012 festival, you’d have had to submit your film by January 1, 2012 to have it considered. If you missed out, then you can always try for next year!

Seminars and workshops

As always, the Gold Coast Film Festival will put on some awesome workshops and seminars, providing a fantastic way for up-and-coming animators and film makers to hone and sharpen their skills. The 2012 festival will include a writing master class, an anime master class, and the opportunity to attend lectures and workshops on film free of charge.

Accommodation

Gold Coast accommodation offers a huge amount of short- and long-term holiday options, so whether you’re here on your own or with the whole family for the festival, you’ll have no problems finding a good spot to crash. Ticket prices vary, but if you plan on seeing more than a couple of films, the best deal is to pick up a Gold Coast Film Fanatic Pass for $50. This fantastic pass includes entry to the opening night film showing and after party, entry to four additional films, and free entry to workshops and master classes.

The Gold Coast Film Festival is easily one of the best times of the year to be in a beautiful part of Queensland.
