Gold Coast makes for Fond Holiday Memories
The Gold Coast recently rated highly in a survey of regional Victorians’ favourite Aussie holiday spots.
The survey by Hotels.com found that the Sunshine Coast, the Blue Mountains and the Geelong/Great Ocean Road region were also popular.
Apparently, people liked to return to their favourite childhood holidays spots as adults, according to the report.
More specifically, they enjoyed re-living their childhood experiences with their own children, said Roger Grant, executive director of Geelong Otway Tourism, which will soon launch a nostalgia-driven marketing campaign.
A third of those surveyed revisited the same holiday location more than five times. Among the explanations for repeat visits were visiting family and friends, affordability, holidaying close to home, a child-friendly setting, the activities on offer, and the relaxing atmosphere.
Although it was once common to stay with friends and family on holiday, it is now more common to stay in paid accommodation close by, such as hotels or caravan parks.
This gives everyone the space to sleep and then come together during the day for activities, said Grant.
